11th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Leaders and Heads of State |

This year the CEN-SAD Conference of Leaders and Heads of State took place in Sabrata (Libya) from May 29th- 30th 2009; It was preceeded by the Executive Council and the Experts meeting (preparatory to the ministerial session) which were successively held in Tripoli from May 23rd - 25th and 26th - 27th.

Sahel-Saharan Investment and Trade Bank
- CEN-SAD area produces 270 million tons per year
- Only about 3% of this energy potential is currently exploited
- The economies of most of the countries within CEN-SAD area depend essentially on the agricultural sector that generates about 20 to 40% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs 70 to 80% of the active population
- The costs of transportation can reach up to 77% of exports value against about 40% for Asian countries and 33% for Latin America and the Caribbean
